The team grows to nearly 40 frogs, working with some incredible clients. The SEO team are nominated for best content marketing campaign at the UK Search Awards, while two updates of the Log File Analyser and four of the SEO Spider are released.
The innovative new Screaming Frog Log File Analyser is launched to help SEOs quickly gain insights into search bot behaviour. The tool quickly becomes an SEO favourite to help make the process of analysing log files less painful.
Screaming Frog continues to grow organically(!), moving to a new office in Henley-on-Thames and now with just under 30 team members. The Screaming Frog SEO Spider is also named in the top 5 paid SEO tools in the largest industry survey carried out by Moz, after a year of significant development and releases. Development also begins on an exciting new piece of software for the industry.
Continued growth in cool new clients means that our team continues to expand, now with over 20 members of the team. All without a single salesman on board (although Dan does have a nice smile). Screaming Frog also win a UK Search Award for helping to ‘inspire and revolutionise the UK search industry’.
The SEO Spider is nominated for a UK Search Award for best SEO software. The team are delighted to be punching above their weight, but feel right at home with such passionate support from within the search marketing community.
Shortly after, the SEO Spider turns one year old (at least the public version!) with 8 new updates being released, all with a variety of new features. The development road map for the future is even more challenging and exciting.
The team of frogs grow to around 8, as amazing new clients come on board. A trend that continues over the course of the year (and to this day!). Due to popular demand a Mac version of the SEO Spider is released, which significantly increases customer base and support enquiries from those that just have them because they look pretty!
After much consideration, the SEO Spider tool is released to the public, with a free 'lite' version and a paid premium version. The impact is instant, with an amazing response from the SEO community who share the same problems that the SEO Spider helps to solve. With no marketing, no advertising and just the power of word of mouth (now known as 'social media'), the SEO Spider reaches over 100k downloads!
Graeme, Jason and Dan make the decision to work together again. With their common values and a belief of starting something new, fresh and remarkable. Screaming Frog becomes incorporated.
Soon afterwards, Matt Hopson joins as the original member of the team. Matt's integrity, experience and knowledge are a vital base for helping to shape the company's culture for the future.
The team move into its first office, in the centre of Henley-on-Thames, with enough room for plenty of expansion and close enough to walk to the pub.
Meanwhile, development began on a sophisticated crawling tool dubbed the 'SEO Spider'. The tool itself was designed to be used by an experienced SEO to help collect data, identify technical issues and provide a base for onsite SEO recommendations.
Dan moves on, looking for an exciting new challenge and starts working full-time as an SEO consultant, under the name 'Screaming Frog'. The name Screaming Frog is inspired by a frog that stood up for itself after being cornered by two cats in Dan's back garden.
In 1998, Graeme founded one of the UK's original search marketing agencies and hired Jason as the very first member of the team. The company thrived, working with some of the largest brands in the UK and around the world. Dan joined the team in 2005 and after much success, the agency was eventually sold to a pan European marketing group.
