Case Study:

Namecheap Link Penalty Case Study

Unnatural links recovery, technical SEO & content.

Client

Namecheap are a leading ICANN-accredited domain name registrar and web hosting company.

They were founded back in 2000, with the idea that everyone should be able to set up their own domain, with incredible value, service and support.

15 years later, Namecheap manage over 5 million domains, host 1.5 million customer’s websites and have a team of over 600 internally, to support their growing customer base.

The Brief

Namecheap approached our team after experiencing a decline in organic visibility and losing confidence in their existing agency.

They required guidance they could trust, as well as an agency to lead strategy, identify the problems, help correct any issues and aid recovery as quickly as possible.

Namecheap also required a longer-term sustainable strategy, to improve organic revenue online.

Our Strategy

We quickly identified the client was experiencing problems due to unnatural links that had been built historically.

We subsequently carried out a significant link audit of 30k links to the website, gathering links from multiple sources including Google Search Console, Majestic, Ahrefs and Open Site Explorer and manually auditing, before creating a disavow and submitting a reconsideration request. The manual action was revoked by Google, which helped aid recovery.

Our team also worked alongside the in-house development team providing keyword research, technical auditing and onsite SEO recommendations for the migration to their new website and move from HTTP to HTTPS.

The SEO and content team also provided guidance and support for content strategy, ideation and outreach to help further improve the reputation of the brand.
