back to issues overview

Invalid OG Image

Pages that have an og:image specified that is not an image or does not have the filetype JPG, PNG or WebP that can be used in snippets of social media platforms.

While Facebook allows GIF, they are not animated and are displayed as static images.

How to Analyse in the SEO Spider

View URLs with this issue in the ‘Social’ tab and ‘Invalid OG Image’ filter, and export all URLs using the ‘Export’ button.

What Triggers This Issue

This issue is triggered when the og:image URL is either not an image, or a supported filetype (JPG, PNG or WebP) used by social platforms.

Example:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<meta property="og:title" content="Your headline">
<meta property="og:description" content="Your exciting description.">
<meta property="og:url" content="https://example.com">
<meta property="og:image" content="https://example.com/example.html">
</head>
<body>
...
</body>
</html>

The og:image URL is incorrect as HTML https://www.example.com/example.html rather than an image format.

How To Fix

Ensure that the URL specified in og:image is an image, and it is a supported filetype to be used by social media platforms.
